Wrinkle Relaxing Injections
BOTOX COSMETIC® Injection
Botox® is a substance that acts to block the signal from nerves to muscles. It is injected very precisely using an ultra fine needle into several locations on the face. Botox® blocks the impulses from the nerve to some of the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines thus relaxing the targeted muscles so they do not contract, while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing for normal facial movement and expression.
BOTOX® cosmetic is most commonly used for:
- Frown Lines
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Lines around the eyes
- Lines on neck
- Lines on the nose
Botox is injected with a very small needle directly into the muscle that needs to be relaxed to erase the wrinkle.
You will begin to see results in your treated areas a few days after the injections and results will continue to intensify over the next 30 days. Results usually last about 4 to 6 months. Results do vary so it is important to be clear about what you want so we can create the best treatment plan for you.
How do I know how much Botox I need?
Everyone is different. You may have less lines and wrinkles than someone else, so less Botox will be needed to achieve your goal. Also, muscle sizes vary and therefore this changes the amount of Botox needed. It is important to get a proper consultation to know exactly where and how Botox needs to be injected.
Can my facial muscles become weaker after Botox?
In short, yes. Your muscles can suffer from muscle atrophy if you do not allow your muscles to regain their function before going for another injection session. However, this is usually only experienced by people who get multiple injections over short periods of time. You should wait at least 6 months before getting Botox repeat injections, apart from minor touch ups that can be made within the first few days or week.
What are the risks?
Botox can cause minimal swelling or a small bruise when treating the delicate area around the eyes. Applying ice and pressure can quickly relieve this.
Pain from Botox injection should be quick and minimal. Sometimes, ice or cream treatments are applied prior to injection to numb the treatment area so you feel as little as possible.
Due to the fact that the muscles causing deep lines are temporarily disabled, your skin will appear soft and smooth. This does not keep you from making normal facial expressions and does not make you appear like you have just had intense cosmetic surgery.
You should not use B0T0X if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
