Premature hair loss is a genetic condition that affects men and women of all ages. People have been trying to reverse hair loss as far back as we know. An ancient Egyptian remedy called for reciting a spell to the sun god and then swallowing a mixture of onions, iron, red lead, honey and alabaster. Another encouraged rubbing the fat of various animals onto the scalp, including that of lions, hippopotamuses, crocodiles, ibex, serpents andgees. Today, a variety of over the counter and prescription products are available to stimulate hair growth.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant treatment
Natural hair transplant is the most elegant and successful method of hair restoration and resolving hair loss. Our method gives hair multiplication by allowing donor follicles to regenerate. The treatment resolves hair loss on temples, receding hairline, bald spot on top of head, and scars.
What is it?
FUE involves removing healthy hair follicles directly from the scalp and grafting them one-by-one into the bald areas of the head. The grafts are placed in a special solution, which protects them against external influences and contains substances that will support the implantation and healing of the grafts. The size of the grafts is 0.5 mm or 0.8mm (depending on hair thickness).
Why would I choose FUE?
Though the basic principle is the same as with older transplant procedures (you’re essentially uprooting hair from one part of the body and embedding it in another) it’s popular because it delivers more natural-looking results. It’s also less painful – and downtime is minimal. Healing time is dependent on skin type, but the grafts take in a matter of days and redness settles in about 3-4 days.
What does it involve?
Unlike ‘strip’ transplants, where whole chunks of skin are removed and grafted elsewhere, with FUE individual hairs are taken from the sides and back of the head and are implanted individually into the patient’s balding areas.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a safe and effective treatment that provides an advanced, non-surgical alternative to surgical hair transplants. FUE employs pneumatic pressure (suction) that allows a gentler removal of hair follicles. After removal, the healthy follicles are passed into a sterile holding reservoir, which preserves their integrity.
The Follicular Unit Extraction procedure with is faster than traditional hair transplantation, thus follicles can be re-implanted sooner, keeping them more robust and increasing the success of the grafting process. If there is not sufficient hair growing on the back of the head then body hair follicles may also be extracted and used via FEU transplantation.
Patients opting for FUE hair transplants do not require systemic anesthesia. We use small amounts of local anesthetic, making the procedure virtually painless and allowing the patient to remain awake during the entire process. Recovery time is minimal and in most cases patients can return to work within a 3-4 days after undergoing the FUE treatment.
Duration of treatment:
Treatment up to 1,000 grafts may take 3-6 hours. Treatment of more than 1,000 grafts will normally be done over 2 or 3 days.
The treated area may have slight swelling for a couple of days. Scabs may form and fall off within 2 weeks. The skin of the recipient area is mostly healed within 2 weeks. Some or all (average 50%) of hairs in the transplanted grafts drop out in 2-8 weeks. Post-treatment consultation with the doctor is not necessary but is possible at any time in person or by email and phone. The skin of the donor area is healed within 2 weeks.
The hair of the donor area is cut short at the treatment, so the area may be visible for some time depending on the length of the hair
FUE hair multiplication transplant is also suitable for women. Hair loss is women is subject to very different patterns and causes than men (which mostly are from male pattern baldness and follows some regular patterns). We can provide an assessment of women’s cases from photos and consultation.
Process for FUE
Send Questionnaire and Photos. Doctor reviews and provides estimate treatment plan, including number of grafts and treatments required. Patients should follow the Pre-treatment Instructions.
Consultation and confirmation of treatment plan. Treatment done the same day - maximum 800-1,000 grafts per day. Patients normally stay in a hotel.
The doctor will specify After-care Instructions, including special wash and ointments and restrictions on diet and physical activity.
Patients should email photos 1 month and 4 months after treatment for routine review by the doctor.
One or two repeat treatments may be required depending on the size of the donor area and the thickness of hair desired. This will be discussed at the consultation.
